Introduction

Over the past decade, new computing models have emerged around the distributed computing area. In particular, Ubiquitous computing has been proposed as the third era of computing, in which new concept of context-aware computing has emerged. Besides, cloud computing has arisen based on the previous technologies in Grid, Utility and Internet computing, with the aim of providing each resource (i.e. infrastructure, platform, software, and storage) as a service. Although these computing models have been proposed independently, new efforts try to formalize their common concerns. As a result, recently hybrid computing models such as mobile cloud computing and ubiquitous cloud computing have been proposed and some research groups focus on investigating the right model that fits the requirements of modern computing.

This special issue of “Journal of Computing and Security” provides the opportunity for researchers and product developers to review and discuss the requirements, state-of-the-art and trends of new computing models. We strongly encourage researchers to submit their outstanding papers to this special issue. Papers on theoretical, practical, and methodological issues in this subject are welcome.

We invite authors to submit their original papers describing research in all aspects of mobile, ubiquitous and cloud computing as well as related computing models. Topics of interest are included but not limited to:

· Architectural issues of middleware for new computing models

· Operating system support for new computing models

· Common trends of ubiquitous and cloud computing

· Mobile cloud computing

· Ubiquitous cloud computing

· Mobility issues in new computing models
